  1. Unrelated to this, but the message system on grooveshark has too few charactars.: I have to agree with what you said to April about Blind Faith. I realise all of my favourite singers when I was still crushing on bands were bands where the singer had flawed vocals. Peter Gabriel’s voice had those wonderful almost adolescent cracks. Both Ozzy Osbourne and John Lennon are nasally. Roger Waters whimpers at times. But these bands were key in my musical formation. Perhaps the best perfections are no perfections, because the best music is made by those who are painfully human.

    • Hey Rael! You’re absolutely right. The “flaws” in the voice often give additional spice and personality to the band — in addition to the ones you mentioned I can include Roger Daltrey of The Who, who’s voice gets plain bad at times; the very special voice of Jon Anderson of Yes, that took me ages to get used to, and similarly to Geddy Lee of Rush, and, last but not least, David Bowie himself. I personally happen to know people who dislike his music solely based on the roughness of his voice. Yet the bands that find themselves in spotlight of the years are often defined by a singer who sounds “different” from any others, and not necessarily in a good way 🙂
